when “no” becomes a “yes”
October 2025
Zein (alias) lives in North Bekaa. Once a very shy child with speech difficulties, he has flourished into a focused and interactive student through the “Back to the Future 6” project, learning to express himself more clearly—one word at a time.
When Zein first joined the ECE (Early Childhood Education) Program, he showed no signs of progress. He refused to write, answer the teachers’ questions, or participate in group activities. His response was always a firm “no.”
Zein was closely followed by the education and psychosocial teams until, one day, small improvements began to appear. Then, a small moment turned into a big breakthrough: when asked to move forward in class, Zein brought his notebook and sat right beside the teacher. He began tracing the dotted guides to form letters, eventually reaching the point where he could write them independently.
Zein’s eagerness to learn and his growing love for writing and participation are remarkable. He himself recognized his progress — and he was proud of it.
His teacher stated, “Zein is the greatest reminder that with time, persistence, continuous encouragement, and patience, every child can grow and shine.”
