Finding light
August 2024
Nada (alias) is a mother of five, in Ghazze, West Bekaa. With her husband ill, Nada became the household breadwinner and struggled to survive economic hardships. Her two daughters Nour (alias) and Yasmin (alias), previously engaged in agricultural work in the fields and were victims of bullying and physical abuse, enrolled in the Basic Literacy and Numeracy program under “Back to the Future”.
The family’s well-being improved when Nada attended the psychosocial support sessions provided by the child protection and education teams, and the girls engaged in the Life Skills activities under the BLN.
For Nada, the PSS sessions were a lifeline, she learned how to transform her anger into love and to master positive parenting techniques. Nour and Yasmin, once struggling and withdrawn, now shine: they have become excellent in reading and writing, and feel supported to unlock their potential.
Empowered by the positive experience, Nada now advocates for child protection in her community. She shares her newfound knowledge and strength, and, with renewed hope, she dreams of a brighter future for her children, knowing they will grow up valuing education and protection.
Her story powerfully illustrates that families can overcome challenges and flourish with the right support, even in the darkest times, a path to light always exists.
The “Back to the Future V” program is funded by European Union Humanitarian Aid, and implemented by AVSI Middle East and Terre des Hommes Italy in Lebanon in partnership with Association Nabad for Development, Sawa for Development and Aid, Fraternity Association, Movement Social, and Uspeak, and in collaboration with Bqosta Association, Al Moasat Association, and Phoenix Forum.
